The Udaan Scholarship

UDAAN started as a social experiment in 2016. Its objective is to “help smart, underprivileged girls get an opportunity to pursue their dreams through higher education and eventual employment by providing them with a sponsorship for their education.”…In the year 2022, we have selected RamaDevi, Vasavi and Vanisree for the UDAAN Scholarship

PURPOSE AND VALUES

Young girls are the creators of their own dream. Yet, they quickly modify their dreams as times change. They’ll change their priorities, from themselves to their parents. They will help raise their siblings. They choose to be the earners in their family where there’s no family member available to help with expenses, which is common.

UDAAN believes that when a young girl chooses to get married, it should be her choice. It should not be the only option presented to her. Hence, we have taken the initiative to help these young girls from all walks of life throughout India receive an education so they can break barriers and follow their dreams without interruption. It’s been said that “If we educate a girl, we educate a family.” We couldn’t agree more.

MEET ANU

Anu, a scholarship awardee of The Udaan Trust talks about her journey. A journey that began before Udaan and how far she has come along after Udaan opened its doors to her.
Crippled by financial difficulties, Anu’s family had decided to forego the path of preliminary education and pull her out of high school for a daily-wage job. What she then thought was ill-fate turned around quickly when Udaan visited her school. Being a talented and a meritorious student, it was only a matter of a few days before she was selected for the scholarship that provided for her all the way from high school to university education and now employment opportunities. Anu, a graduate of Jaya Bharathi Institute of Technology, successfully cleared her interview rounds with several MNCs before getting placed with Hitachi.

MEET SWATHI

Swathi, one of the first students of The Udaan Trust scholarship, talks about her journey. A journey that began before Udaan and how far she has come along after Udaan opened its doors to her.
Swathi’s family had decided to get her married away and discontinue her higher studies. Her mother thought it would be the only way out of the financial challenges that had befallen them. This ill-fate quickly turned around when the Udaan team visited her school. Being a talented and a meritorious student, it was only a matter of a few days before she was selected for the scholarship that provided for her all the way from high school to university education and now employment opportunities. Swathi, a graduate of the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering, successfully cleared her interview rounds with several MNCs before getting placed with Accenture.
We have helped change one life but the impact we have made goes way beyond. Help us change the lives of many more girls like Swathi.

About Us

The Udaan Trust (Flight Foundation) was created to give hope to young girls in India who struggle with the costs of education. Poverty is the eternal enemy of opportunity. No one understands this more than young girls from underprivileged echelons of Indian society. Many bright, ambitious girls who dream of a better life have to surrender their dreams to the reality that they cannot afford an education. With the Udaan Trust, we provide these young girls with the education they deserve.

“So That No Young Girl Will Ever Be Afraid to Dream Again.”

UDAAN keeps the hope of these young girls alive and helps change their destiny. It provides them with college scholarships and job placements. We’re young. We’re not an organization. We’re a movement that strives to bring people together to provide every girl the opportunity of an exceptional education. After all, “…when girls are educated and empowered, incredible things can happen.”

Young girls are the creators of their own dream. Yet, they quickly modify their dreams as times change. They’ll change their priorities, from themselves to their parents. They will help raise their siblings. They choose to be the earners in their family where there’s no family member available to help with expenses, which is common.

Girls will struggle with their identity. When they get older, they will become a part of another family through marriage, which acts as another challenge. They feel they must take up all the additional responsibility that a new family entails while balancing this with their biological family.

These young women take care of both families equally. The only difference is, she represents her new family, so she’ll focus on those new responsibilities and duties, instead of caring for her paternal family. Again, her priorities change.

So far, UDAAN has helped educate and sponsor six girls and we don’t plan on stopping.
