About Us
The Udaan Trust (Flight Foundation) was created to give hope to young girls in India who struggle with the costs of education. Poverty is the eternal enemy of opportunity. No one understands this more than young girls from underprivileged echelons of Indian society. Many bright, ambitious girls who dream of a better life have to surrender their dreams to the reality that they cannot afford an education. With the Udaan Trust, we provide these young girls with the education they deserve.
“So That No Young Girl Will Ever Be Afraid to Dream Again.”
UDAAN keeps the hope of these young girls alive and helps change their destiny. It provides them with college scholarships and job placements. UDAAN aims to help as many young girls with a solid education and professional skills so they can be a part of the modern world. Finally, it provides opportunity and empowerment to choose their own path. We hope it’s the beginning of change and that one day in the future, young girls won’t be afraid to dream big.
We’re young. We’re not an organization. We’re a movement that strives to bring people together to provide every girl the opportunity of an exceptional education. After all, “…when girls are educated and empowered, incredible things can happen.”
Young girls are the creators of their own dream. Yet, they quickly modify their dreams as times change. They’ll change their priorities, from themselves to their parents. They will help raise their siblings. They choose to be the earners in their family where there’s no family member available to help with expenses, which is common.
Girls will struggle with their identity. When they get older, they will become a part of another family through marriage, which acts as another challenge. They feel they must take up all the additional responsibility that a new family entails while balancing this with their biological family.
These young women take care of both families equally. The only difference is, she represents her new family, so she’ll focus on those new responsibilities and duties, instead of caring for her paternal family. Again, her priorities change.
UDAAN believes that when a young girl chooses to get married, it should be her choice. It should not be the only option presented to her. Hence, we have taken the initiative to help these young girls from all walks of life throughout India receive an education so they can break barriers and follow their dreams without interruption. It’s been said that “If we educate a girl, we educate a family.” We couldn’t agree more.
So far, UDAAN has helped educate and sponsor six girls and we don’t plan on stopping.
